Wind in the Willows

The Town of Bassendean operates two early childhood education centres known as Wind in the Willows Early Childhood Education located in Bassendean and Ashfield.

The community based, not-for-profit services provide education and care for children aged 0-5.

The two locations run as one continual service, with children and educators transitioning from Bassendean to Ashfield as required.

Wind in the Willows updates

In February 2026, Town of Bassendean Council proposed to transition Wind in the Willows to an experienced private childcare operator.

Following significant community response via public submissions and a Special Electors Meeting, Council ceased the public disposal process and resolved to adopt a new direction for the Wind in the Willows centres.

On 28 April, Council confirmed it would continue to operate its two Wind in the Willows (WITW) early childhood education and care services until at least July 2027.

Council is currently exploring opportunities to transition Wind in the Willows to a suitable not-for-profit provider.
