Verge Collect

From 12 January 2026, the Town of Bassendean is moving from a skip bin service to a pre-booked loose verge collection service, called Verge Collect, with WA Recycling Services as the new contractor.

Until the new system is in place, residents can still book one skip bin (general or green waste) until late December 2025.

From January to June 2026, each household will get one pre-booked loose verge collection (general or green).

From July 2026 onwards, residents will receive two collections per financial year – either general or green (residents can opt for both to be green waste, but not both general waste).

This service is for residential properties paying a waste charge only.

Bulky items like white goods, mattresses, and lounges will still be booked and collected separately, but from January this will be done by WA Recycling Services. The last date for the whitegoods/ mattresses/ lounges collection with Veolia is 18 December.

Kerbside bin collections stay the same and will continue to be handled by Veolia.

How to set out your waste

  • You can place up to 3 cubic metres of waste (3m x 1m x 1m).
  • Put your waste out before 7am on your booked collection day, but no more than 3 days before.
  • Please separate bulk waste from appliances, scrap metal and mattresses to help us recycle more items.
  • Keep waste clear of walls, trees, and plumbing and electrical services to avoid damage.
  • Waste must be placed in front of your property, not behind fences or walls.
  • To help with any potential illegal dumping investigations, please take a photo of your waste once it’s out.
  • Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in a non-conformance and your waste not being collected. You may lose your allocation if non-collection is due to non-conformance.

What to do when you've run out of collections

Property owners are issued with two tip vouchers per financial year (QR codes printed on bottom of E-rates or Rates notice, issued in July).

The tip vouchers can be redeemed for 300kg (trailer load) of green waste or mixed waste, at either Baywaste Community Recycling Centre ($16 surcharge) or Red Hill Waste Management Facility.

A range of items are also accepted either as free drop off items or as per EMRC’s Fees & Charges. For details including accepted items please see: Tip Vouchers » Town of Bassendean

I don't want to use my verge. Where else can I place my items for collection?

If you don’t want items sitting on your verge, or there is no space due to vegetation, please contact WA Recycling Services to discuss alternative collection locations. Please note that the collection team are unable to enter your property. They will not come past your letterbox.

Where does the waste go once collected?

Once your waste is collected, it’s sorted offsite to recover as many materials as possible.

  • General waste goes to the Red Hill Waste Management Facility.
  • Green waste also goes to Red Hill, where it’s chipped for reuse.
  • E-waste is recycled, and white goods are processed as scrap metal.
  • Mattress coils are also recycled.

By separating items like appliances, metals, whitegoods and mattresses from your furniture or general junk, you’re helping us recycle more and reduce landfill.

My question is not listed here.

Please contact WA Recycling Services on 9452 0146 between 8:45am - 4pm weekdays.
