The Town of Bassendean is pleased to announce that bookings are now open for our new Verge Collect service, starting Monday 12 January 2026. This service replaces the previous skip bin system with a more flexible, community-supported approach to bulk and green waste collection.
Following a 2024 community survey, 63% of respondents indicated a preference for loose verge collections over skip bins. Residents cited benefits such as easier waste placement, improved recycling opportunities, and better material recovery.
Under the new system:
- From January to June 2026, each household is entitled to one pre-booked collection (general or green waste).
- From July 2026 onwards, households will receive two collections per financial year (either general or green waste, but not both general).
Weekly collections will occur on Mondays, excluding public holidays where it will be delayed until the Tuesday. Bulky items such as white goods, mattresses, and lounges will continue to be booked and collected separately. Kerbside bin services remain unchanged.
