Town and RSL WA explore vacant site opportunity in Bassendean

The Town of Bassendean and RSL WA have started early talks about the future of a vacant site at 179 Guildford Road, Bassendean, which is currently leased to the local RSL sub-branch under the Town’s community leasing framework, and adjoins the RSL-owned site at 10 Kenny Street.

The site is ideally located just 100 metres from Bassendean train station and 10km from the Perth CBD. It is zoned for residential development and offers a unique opportunity to create something that benefits veterans and the broader community.

The current lease is due to expire at the end of 2025. Both organisations are committed to working together to find the best use for the land, with a focus on supporting veterans and maintaining the RSL’s strong local presence.

Discussions are still in the early stages, and any future plans will be developed in consultation with key stakeholders and the community.

Town of Bassendean Mayor Kathryn Hamilton said the Town was looking forward to working with RSL WA to deliver the best outcome for the community.

“We’re proud to be working alongside RSL WA to explore how this site can better serve our community, particularly our veterans. This is a great opportunity to support those who’ve served our country, while making smart use of well-located land close to transport and local services.”

RSL WA CEO Stephen Barton said: “We appreciate the opportunity the Town has afforded us in discussing the future of 10 Kenny Street. We are hopeful that an outcome can be found that benefits the veteran community and the residents of Bassendean.”
