Plants to Residents program partnership confirmed
Council has approved the Town of Bassendean’s continued partnership with Environment House to deliver the Plants to Residents program.
Environment House is a nearby, not-for-profit environment centre that has supported the Town over the last six years to deliver the popular program.
Through the program, residents can purchase native plants at a subsidised rate of $1 per plant, encouraging waterwise gardening that improves local biodiversity, supports urban cooling and reduces residential water use.
Updated Land Asset Strategy endorsed
Council endorsed and adopted the updated Land Asset Strategy 2026-2031 following the annual review.
The Land Asset Strategy is a framework to ensure the efficient and responsible retention, development, acquisition and disposal of Town land and property assets for the benefit of the community.
The strategy is supported by a Land Asset Action Register which will be reviewed annually.
Corporate Emissions Reduction Strategy adopted
Council adopted the Corporate Emissions Reduction Strategy 2026 - 2028.
The Strategy focuses on how the Town can reduce carbon emissions through its operations, including actions such as improved energy efficiency, on-site renewable energy generation and purchase of renewable energy.
The Strategy will support the Town’s objective to strive to be carbon neutral by 2030, as listed in the Town’s Council Plan 2023-33.
New path for Wood Street, Ashfield
Council has approved the installation of a new path on Wood Street, between Railway Parade and Alice Street, Ashfield.
The path will enhance pedestrian safety – particularly for those who walk from the Ashfield train station to their employment within the surrounding industrial areas.
The path will also support more sustainable transport options for local workers and help to reduce dependency on private vehicles.
