The Town of Bassendean and Main Roads WA are working together on a road safety initiative called the Low-Cost Urban Road Safety Program (LCURS) to improve the safety of roads and intersections within the Town of Bassendean.

The initiative’s main objective is to reduce crashes via the installation of low-cost road treatments.

Central Bassendean, along the Palmerston Street corridor, will be the location of this year’s LCURS Program in Bassendean.

The Town’s contractors, Downer Group and Dowsing Group, are scheduled to commence work on Monday 16 February 2026 (weather permitting). Scheduled works are estimated to be completed before Tuesday 24 February 2026.

Planned treatments:

A mini roundabout with zebra crossings and speed plateaus on its approaches will be constructed at the following intersection:

• James Street / Palmerston Street

A raised intersection platform, with tightened corner radii will be constructed at the following intersection:

• Wilson Street / Palmerston Street

Several mid-block speed plateaus will be constructed at the following locations:

• Palmerston Street between Eileen Street + Kathleen Street
• Palmerston Street between Kenny Street + Parker Street
• Wilson Street between Old Perth Road + Palmerston Street

Traffic management will be in place during this period to ensure the safety of residents and contractors. Access will be temporarily restricted to some properties while the works are in progress.

Please speak to an onsite traffic controller who will endeavour to assist you during these works. We request you do not park on the road or verge at the listed intersections during these works.
