Verge Maintenance Assistance Program

 The Verge Maintenance Assistance Program provides support to property owners or occupiers to maintain their non-irrigated grassed verge twice a year if they are unable to undertake mowing due to age, disability or other medical condition.

Eligibility

To apply for the program, property owners or occupiers must demonstrate all of the following criteria:

  1. Permanently reside in the Town of Bassendean and occupy the property that is subject to this application.
  2. Have a disability or other medical condition that makes it impractical to maintain the verge and can provide evidence, such as a current care approval or medical certificate confirming there is a medical reason which prevents the applicant from being able to undertake mowing of the verge.
  3. Have no other members of the household, relatives or neighbours who can assist in maintaining the verge.
  4. Are receiving a Commonwealth Pension, for example, an aged or disability pension (evidence required).
  5. Residents who are the property owners must not be in arrears for payment of rates, without a payment plan in place.

Applicants previously approved for the program will be contacted by the Town prior to 30 June each year to confirm their situation hasn’t changed and confirm the assistance will continue.

What if I’m not eligible for the verge maintenance program?

There are numerous organisations that provide home and garden maintenance support services.

Silverchain or People Who Care assist individuals and families that may need some extra help with everyday tasks.

Property owners or occupiers will need to contact these organisations directly to see if they are eligible for this service.
