Town reserves benefit from Waterwise turf innovation

The Town of Bassendean was proud to welcome the Hon. Don Punch, Minister for Water, to Bassendean Oval last week to showcase the results of a new sports turf injection system, delivered through funding from the Gnangara Waterwise Councils Program.

This cutting-edge system applies wetting agents and fertiliser directly through the irrigation network, eliminating the need for vehicles to access the turf to distribute the fertiliser. The benefits are significant:

  • Reduced water use
  • Fewer man hours required
  • Minimised turf damage from machinery

It’s a smart, sustainable solution that supports both environmental goals and community enjoyment of our green spaces.

Bassendean Oval is the first of three local reserves to benefit from this upgrade, with Ashfield Reserve and Jubilee Reserve scheduled for installation later this finanical year.

As a Gold Waterwise Council, the Town of Bassendean remains committed to innovative approaches that protect our water resources while enhancing the quality of public spaces for residents and visitors alike.
