The Town of Bassendean is making parking rules clearer at the corner of Chedworth Way and Ivanhoe Street in Eden Hill. This comes after concerns about cars parking on verges during school pick-up times at Eden Hill Primary School.
What’s the law?
Under the Local Parking Law 2019, you cannot:
- stop on a verge unless you live there or have permission from the property owner
- park within 10 metres of an intersection.
These rules have always applied. Parking on the bend makes it hard for drivers to see and can damage verges and private property.
What’s changing?
To help everyone follow the rules and keep the area safe, be extending the on-street parking restriction along the south-west corner of the intersection and will put up ‘No Stopping on Road or Verge’ to communicate the new and existing restrictions. This will make the restrictions easier to see.
Why are we doing this?
- Improve visibility at the intersection.
- Make the road safer for everyone.
- Support compliance with existing laws.
The signs will go up in the coming months with little disruption. Our Rangers will keep an eye on the area after the signs are installed.
