The Town of Bassendean congratulates Councillor Tallan Ames on becoming only the second councillor in the Town’s history to complete the Diploma of Local Government for Elected Members.

Cr Ames was formally awarded his diploma at the WALGA Local Government Convention this week, presented by WALGA President Karen Chappel.

This nationally recognised 12-month program is the highest qualification available to Elected Members through WALGA Training. It equips participants with the knowledge and skills to be effective leaders and confident contributors to informed decision-making in their communities.

The Diploma aims to deepen understanding of legislative and regulatory responsibilities, while also enhancing critical thinking, communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and research capabilities. Key topics include financial management, conflict resolution, community leadership, strategic planning, policy development, asset management, and local planning frameworks.

Town of Bassendean CEO Cameron Woods congratulated Cr Ames on his achievement, saying:

“This is a significant accomplishment and a testament to Cr Ames’ dedication to professional development and to serving his community with integrity and insight. The Bassendean community is all the better for having such a committed and capable individual on Council.”
