Council Update Wind in the Willows
At its Ordinary Council Meeting on 24 March 2026, Council resolved to adopt a new direction for the future of the Wind in the Willows Early Childhood Education and Childcare Services.
The decision follows significant feedback from families and community members regarding the previously proposed disposal process for the Wilson Street site, along with formal notification from the Cha Cha Cha Group of its withdrawal from that process.
Council resolved to immediately cease the current public disposal process and explore a revised approach that takes into account many of the views and expectations expressed by the community.
The resolution also authorises the Town to work in partnership with the Federal and State Governments to explore funding options for the development of new facilities into the future.
Mayor Kathryn Hamilton said the decision highlights Council’s commitment to responding to community feedback, whilst seeking longer term sustainable solutions.
“This resolution ensures the Town can move forward and explore further opportunities with government, community stakeholders, and potential service providers to deliver the best possible outcome for families.”
“This proposal listens to our community, keeping families at the centre of our decision making, while ensuring we responsibly manage public assets and support broader planning and community objectives.”
At last night’s Special Meeting of Electors, electors were advised of the continuation of both childcare services by the Town whilst other options are explored, including analysis of proposals contained in electors motions put forward at the meeting.
At the Ordinary Council Meeting on April 28, Council will examine the submissions from the public notice period regarding the potential disposal, consider potential grant funding opportunities for childcare facilities and the motions from the Special Meeting of Electors.
