Town seeking EOI’s for Umbrella Insurance Program

The Town of Bassendean is currently seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from eligible Community Groups to participate in an Umbrella Insurance Program.

The EOI process is the result of consultation with various community groups where it was identified that the cost of public liability insurance premiums is a costly exercise for many small groups which significantly reduces their financial capacity to deliver community facing initiatives.

As part of the Town's overall strategy to build the people and financial capacity of community groups, it is proposed for the Town to purchase an additional insurance policy that will provide Umbrella Insurance cover for eligible groups.

Eligibility would include small not for profit community groups that meet certain criteria:

- Have a turnover less than $100,000;
- Do not have the ability to access insurance through their affiliate association, ie sporting clubs would not be eligible; and
- Are not registered businesses/sole traders.

Once EOI’s have been received and assessed, the best possible insurance cover will be purchased by the Town, with eligible community groups being invited to participate in the Umbrella Insurance Program. Groups will likely be required to co-contribute to the insurance cover and will be required to enter into an agreement with the Town, who will pay the remaining insurance cost under the program in line with the financial year.

Providing umbrella insurance will build on the Town’s desire to build capacity of community groups, volunteer participation and a sense of belonging by supporting groups committed to delivering positive outcomes with our community.
