Funding secured for Success Hill Foreshore Restoration

The Town of Bassendean has secured $67,500 in funding from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions’ (DBCA’s) Riverbank Grants program to implement the Success Hill Reserve Foreshore Restoration Project over the next three years. The Town of Bassendean will match the funding provided and has been working closely with DBCA staff in planning the project’s implementation.

The project will focus on stabilising the steep sloped areas on both sides of Success Hill Reserve’s jetty stairs using the following environmental works:

  • Strategic woody weed removal and pre-planting control of broadleaf and grassy weeds;
  • Removal of the temporary drainage pipe no longer required after completion of the Success Hill drainage diversion project;
  • Revegetation of the area by planting 1,000 local native seedlings during winter and temporary irrigation over summer; and
  • Ongoing maintenance until December 2029.

These works aim to stabilise the slope and address significant erosion affecting the reserve, which poses a risk to the jetty, access stairs, surrounding parkland and river shoreline. The project will also help protect the area’s important heritage and ecological values.

The initial works will begin on 13 July 2026 and involve removal of woody weeds and preliminary weed control, prior to planting and the dates are subject to change based on suitable weather.

Due to the steepness of the slope, contractors will be required to use fall arrest harnesses to ensure the safety of personnel carrying out the work.

As a result, the Success Hill Reserve jetty, stairs and path will be closed from 7am to 3pm during works.
