The Town of Bassendean Council has adopted its 2025-2026 Annual Budget, reaffirming its commitment to responsible financial management, investment in community priorities, and planning for a sustainable future.
This year’s budget builds on strong foundations of financial sustainability while responding to the evolving needs of the community. Through recent service reviews and cost-saving measures, the Town has strengthened its reserves, redirected funding to key community priorities, and limited rate increases.
Mayor Kathryn Hamilton said the Council was acutely aware of ongoing cost-of-living pressures and had delivered a budget designed to provide tangible value to residents.
“We’ve worked hard to strike the right balance between necessary investment and financial restraint,” Mayor Hamilton said.
“Thanks to savings identified through our operations review, we’ve kept rate increases to a minimum, and we’re proud to maintain current waste charges without any fee increase for residents.”
“Every investment in this budget is thoughtful and targeted – ensuring that every dollar is working hard for the people of this district.”
The 2025–2026 Budget delivers more than $21 million in investment across infrastructure, services and strategic priorities. Key projects in the capital works program include upgrades to ageing infrastructure and public facilities to ensure they remain safe, accessible and welcoming for all.
In line with the Town’s goal of improving service delivery, the budget also includes investment in digital enhancements, such as a new online booking platform for community facilities and an upgraded library management system to streamline borrowing and access to resources.
Environmental sustainability remains a core focus, with continued expansion of the Town’s urban tree canopy, rehabilitation of natural areas, and programs aligned with the Town’s long-term environmental targets.
The Town has also successfully secured nearly $7.7 million in external funding through grants and election commitments for key community projects, including the Ashfield Flats Master Plan, redevelopment of facilities at Jubilee Reserve, and planning for the revitalisation of Bassendean Oval.
“These projects will breathe new life into our local spaces – supporting sport, recreation, and connection across all generations,” Mayor Hamilton said.
The budget reflects a clear and inclusive vision: a connected, resilient, and future-ready Bassendean.
“At the heart of this budget are our people – in Ashfield, Bassendean and Eden Hill,” Mayor Hamilton said.
“We’re proud to deliver a plan that meets today’s needs while laying strong foundations for tomorrow.”
