Library and Customer Service Integration Project update

Work has begun on the Library and Customer Service integration project, with Bassendean Memorial Library being refurbished to become the future home of the Town’s Customer Service team. Once complete, the Library will offer a convenient one-stop-shop for local government services. 

Improvements being made include a new meeting room where the foyer previously existed, a refreshed library front desk to improve safety and security, a dedicated Customer Service counter, and reconfigured back office areas for Customer Service and Community Development staff. 

Works began in early February and are expected to continue through to late March, with some noise and minor disruption possible at times. Clear signage will be in place and friendly staff will be available to assist.

Why is Customer Service moving to the library? 

Customer Service is moving to Bassendean Memorial Library to make it easier for the community to access Town services in one place. Bringing services together will improve convenience, raise awareness of programs and activities, and create a more comfortable space for customers. 

Where will Customer Service be located? 

Customer Service is relocating from 35 Old Perth Road to Bassendean Memorial Library, at 46 Old Perth Road, Bassendean. 

When is the move happening? 

Refurbishment works began in early February 2026 and are expected to finish in late March 2026. 

Customer Service will move into the library once the works are complete. The exact move date will be confirmed closer to the time. 

Will the library be closed during the works? 

Yes, but only for a short time. Bassendean Memorial Library was temporarily closed from Wednesday 4 February to Monday 9 February 2026 so part of the work could be completed safely. The library is now open as normal.

Will library services still operate? 

Yes. Outside of the short closure period, library services, programs and opening hours are continuing as usual. Some noise or minor disruption may be experienced while works are underway.

No. Customer Service phone and email details will stay the same.

What services will be available at the library? 

You’ll be able to access all the same Customer Service enquiries, payments and information as before, but now in the same place as library services. This makes it easier to take care of multiple things in one visit. 

How will I know where to go inside the building? 

Clear signage will be in place to help guide you when you arrive. Friendly staff will also be available to help if you’re unsure where to go. 

Will there be noise or disruption? 

Some noise and disruption may be experienced while refurbishment works are underway. We appreciate the community’s patience as these improvements are carried out.

We’ll share updates regularly via the Town and Library websites, social media channels, and signage at the library and Customer Service Centre.
