Free transport for eligible local seniors recommences with the Town of Bassendean Volunteer Transport Service

The Town of Bassendean’s transport service for local seniors is set to relaunch on 1 November 2023. The Volunteer Transport service will be provided by a seven-seater passenger vehicle driven by registered volunteer drivers to take seniors to shops and social outings, to support their ongoing engagement with community life.

The service will be free for users and will operate between Tuesdays and Fridays (subject to volunteer availability). For the safety of volunteers and passengers, users must be ambulatory, declared fit to travel by a medical practitioner, and hold a valid WA Seniors Card or Health Care Card.

Transport to events and activities run by local community groups including the Bassendean Melody Club, the Bassendean 55 Plus Association, and the Bassendean Wider Vision group will be prioritised. There will also be a weekly shuttle bus to Bassendean Shopping Centre on Thursdays.

As the federal government’s My Aged Care service provides subsidised transport for seniors operated by trained staff, the Town recommends that seniors register with My Aged Care to assist with transport to medical appointments. Depending on availability, the Town’s Volunteer Transport service may provide some transport to medical appointments within an eight-kilometre radius of Bassendean.

To learn more about the service or to register, contact Shanel De Silva at the Town of Bassendean on 9377 2191 or [email protected].
