Anne Ivy Brinkworth

Mrs. Anne Ivy Brinkworth passed away on the 10 October 2023, and the Town of Bassendean offers sincere condolences to her family.

An active member of the Bassendean community since her family moved to the area in 1961, Anne was the Town’s longest serving councillor, serving for 26 years: from 1988 to 1994, and 1995 to 2015. In 2016, the Town recognised Anne’s outstanding and exceptional contribution to the community by bestowing the title of Honorary Freeman in 2016.

Anne was involved in a variety of local organisations and initiatives. She was a member of the Anzac Terrace Primary School P&C, served as president of the Hampton Senior High School P&C, and was a member of the local Red Cross, where she started the Bassendean Red Cross Coffee Club. She was known for her advocacy for seniors, community safety, and was involved in Neighbourhood Watch. Anne also successfully advocated for all night street lighting in the Town, which was uncommon at the time.

Anne’s contributions were recognised with several awards, including the Meritorious Service Award from WA Local Government Association in 2004, the Australian Red Cross Distinguished Service Award, and the 50-year Laurel Wreath to Long Service Medal. In 2012, the Department of Communities presented Anne with the Volunteer Service Award, for her 50 years of service to the Australian Red Cross.

Town of Bassendean Mayor, Cr Kath Hamilton, described Anne as an “…energetic person who positively contributed much to the fabric of our community throughout her entire life,” and said she would be missed.
