FREE EVENT - Clothes Swap and Sashiko Mending Workshop

Save the date and join the Town of Bassendean, the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC) and Elise Hinkley from Hoop Hoop Hooray to upgrade your wardrobe the sustainable way! You will also the opportunity to learn about different mending techniques to repair and enhance your clothing.
You can also take the opportunity to visit the Bassendean Markets at BIC Reserve for food and entertainment on the evening.
Clothes swap
A library of clothes will be provided by the ERMC to help kickstart the evening, including tables, racks and hangers.
Attendees are encouraged to bring along items to trade if they wish. Clothes brought for swapping must be clean and in good condition.
When bringing items to swap, take a moment to consider what others would be happy to receive.
What to bring on the evening:
- Clothing items: men's and women's clothes will be accepted, please do not bring children's clothes.
- Accessories: hats, scarves and jewellery.
- Shoes.
Mending workshop
At the Town of Bassendean Clothes Swap, Elise Hinkley from Hoop Hoop Hooray will teach visible mending techniques like appliqué, embroidery, and Sashiko. The workshop aims to empower participants to enhance their repair and transformation skills. All skill levels are welcome to learn and share practical tips with a community of like-minded individuals passionate about the art of mending.
What you’ll get:
- All workshop materials (including Sashiko needle and thread) and notes so that you can continue mending and revamping your clothes at home.
What to bring:
- Hopefully, an item you’ve found at the clothes swap!
- Embellishments (buttons, patches, fabrics etc.) that are meaningful to you (not a requirement).
- Your imagination and enthusiasm!
