The Living Stream project in the Second to Fourth Ave area of Bassendean has been discontinued due to design variations that would have diminished community benefits. The inability to establish trees, carry out envisaged revegetation, and the replacement of grass with materials contributing to the urban heat island effect were key factors in this decision. The project also presented unacceptable financial and reputational risks to the Town that could not be mitigated.

Despite this disappointment, the Town and Water Corporation remain committed to achieving environmental goals and are actively exploring new opportunities.

Planning for the project began in 2019, aiming to transform a grassed stormwater drain into a communal space with enhanced environmental outcomes.
