Mr Allan Kickett passed away on 22 October 2023 and the Town of Bassendean offers sincere condolences to his family.

An Aboriginal Elder of the Town of Bassendean and long-time resident of Eden Hill, Allan was born on his father’s country in 1938, Badjilling Reserve, Ballardong Country near Beverley. At age seven, he and four of his sisters were separated from their parents and sent to Roelands Church of Christ Mission on the Collie River near Bunbury.

Adult life saw Allan work in the South-West of WA, Fremantle and the broader Perth metropolitan area before settling in Eden Hill near Mary Crescent Reserve over 40 years ago. Allan remained a resident of the Town up until his passing.

Allan was involved in delivering the Town of Bassendean’s first two Reconciliation Action Plans in 2012 and 2018, and was regularly called upon to conduct Welcome to Country for various Town events.

A passionate advocate for reconciliation and improving the lives of Aboriginal people, Allan founded the Koya Aboriginal Corporation in 2005. Based in Midland, Koya runs various programs for Aboriginal youth, including a successful basketball program which aims to keep young people engaged and closing the gap in the areas of health and education.
