Bulk Waste & Green Waste Skip Bin Services

Great news!  Based on community feedback through various means, the Town is transitioning to a booked Skip Bin service.

There are multiple benefits to an on-demand skip bin service such as improved resource recovery, larger allowed volumes per collection and booking a skip bin when it suits you.

From Thursday 10 November 2022 residents will be able to order one 3m3 general waste skip bin, and one 3m3 green waste skip bin per financial year.  The first bins are to be delivered on Thursday 1 December 2022.  Alternatively, residents can choose to order two green waste skip bins per financial year.

To book a skip bin please call Veolia on 9350 7195.

Residents will also be able to book up to two additional skip bins at a reduced rate per financial year.

If there is insufficient space for a skip bin to be placed on the verge, residents may be eligible for a bin to be emptied from private property with the signing of a waiver and approval from Veolia.  If this is not possible, then a booked verge collection may be offered based on an assessment by Veolia.  If all the previous methods are not viable, the Town may elect to provide 2 additional tip vouchers.

Other benefits of a Skip Bin service include less unsightly material on the verge from verge collections, reduced illegal dumping and less late-night scavenging of verge materials.

The change to skip bins also enables the Town to process the collected material through EMRC’s Hazelmere Resource Recovery Facility to divert more material from landfill.  Residents are also encouraged to put useable items up for free on local ‘for free’ or 'buy nothing’ Facebook groups or list for free on various platforms like Facebook Marketplace or Gumtree.

Availability of skip bins is subject to demand, if you need a bin at a particular time, it is best to book it well in advance.  Residents are encouraged to have material ready to load directly into the bin when it arrives to reduce the likelihood of dumping in empty skip bins.  In the unfortunate event that dumping does occur, please contact the Town as soon as possible to find a solution.   If you don’t have enough waste to fill a skip bin, talk to your neighbours to see if they have any material they might want to add.
