Despite the challenges of COVID-19, 74 percent of Town of Bassendean residents remain hopeful and enthusiastic about the future.

An independent survey also found that community members are happy with the Town of Bassendean’s response to COVID-19, scoring overall performance 73 out of 100 (compared with 68% Statewide)

The MARKYT Community Resilience Scorecard was designed to help local governments keep a finger on the pulse of changing needs and priorities to:

• Cope with short-term disruptions
• Anticipate, prepare and adapt to longer-term changes
• Monitor symbols of recovery that build hope, trust and confidence that WA is on the path to recovery.

The survey involved 7,666 West Australians in 128 local government areas, including 69 residents in Bassendean, Ashfield and Eden Hill in June and July as WA was emerging from shutdown.

It found that local communities across WA have shown strength and resilience in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The survey was undertaken by market researchers Catalyse with the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, and Local Government Professionals WA. 

Feedback from Town of Bassendean community members showed the majority: 

• Believe the Town has demonstrated clear thinking and decision making (67%)
• Feel the Town has shown empathy and compassion (75%)
• Have confidence and trust in the Town to make good decisions (67%)
• Agree there are good health and safety practices in place at community facilities to manage COVID-19 risks (70%)
• Believe the Town is open to trying new innovations (72%)
