Permanent home for the Men’s Shed At the August meeting, Council approved a location, site plan, and budget to build a Men’s Shed on May Holman Drive near the corner of Railway Parade. Earlier this year, Council revoked the 2015 Council decision to locate the shed on the Town’s Depot on Scaddan Street. Having secured a $200,000 Lotteries West grant, and Council funding of $170,000 in this year’s budget, the hard-working members of the Bassendean Men’s Shed now have the certainty they need to proceed with building a permanent Shed of their own in our Town. “It’s been a long time in the brewing,” said Clive Brown, Secretary of the Bassendean Men’s Shed Association. “We first approached the Town for land to build the Shed on in 2010. After many near misses, we thought we had the right stuff at the Scaddan Street site only to be knocked for a six with the cost of construction”, he added. Town staff have begun the work of securing approvals and quotations for work, and site works for the shed will start soon. 2018 Children’s Week Walk The Town of Bassendean will once again be staging the annual Children’s Week Walk on Sunday 21 October 2018 at Sandy Beach Reserve as part of Children’s Week from 19 to 28 October 2018. Join the community fun with a family walk along Ashfield Flats! The Children’s Week Walk promotes and raises awareness on the importance of physical activity for toddlers, children and their families and will hopefully encourage and inspire parents to recreate as a family on a regular basis. Registrations for the walk are to commence at 9.30am for a 10am start. The Children’s Week Walk is an alcohol and smoke free event.
