On 3 April 2017, the Water Corporation advised that the Town of Bassendean had become one of 32 Waterwise Councils to be endorsed across the State as a leading local government in sustainable water management, as a result of participating in the Waterwise Council Program.

As a newly endorsed Council, the Town can now apply for up to $10,000 a year as part of our Waterwise Verge Incentive Scheme. The Town can offer ratepayers a rebate or incentive to create a low water use verge garden and promote a verge policy consistent with the Water Corporation’s guidelines. The Water Corporation will match the Council’s contribution per verge.  The Town will be offered a range of resources to assist with establishing a waterwise verge incentive or rebate scheme, in order to access the funding.

Other benefits available to Waterwise Councils include:

  • free water sustainability training for team members,
  • invitations to workshops, networking and industry events,
  • access to case studies,
  • access to water data and key industry contacts,
  • free educational workshops,
  • promotional materials for your community,
  • data loggers to assist with leak detection.
