Town of Bassendean  recognised for Waterwise Status

The Town of Bassendean has been formally acknowledged for their water efficiency at the 2017 Waterwise Business Recognition Event. To reach a Waterwise Council status local governments are required to meet a number of criteria committing to assessing and improving water efficiency of their buildings as well as training staff in sustainable water management for our community and environment.

The Waterwise Council program is run by the Water Corporation together with the Department of Water.

“The program aims to build a cooperative working relationship between these state government bodies and local governments to improve water use efficiency. The goal is for Perth to become and remain a climate resilient community, and councils achieving Waterwise status are showing leadership in sustainable water management to help reach this goal”

The program provides opportunities to improve water efficiency and water quality to ensure a sustainable water future for local governments, community and the environment.

Decreasing rainfall and associated declines in water supply coupled with increasing population and higher water demand mean that efforts to increase water use efficiency and water conservation are needed more than ever before. The EMRC’s Water Quality and Conservation program provides support and guidance to reduce water consumption across the region,”
