How to join the libraryVisit our library to apply for a library membership card. Membership is available to all residents of Western Australia at no charge and regardless of age. To join the library you will need to present some form of identification containing your current address, and fill in and sign a membership form. You will also need to give us an address and a telephone number of a person who does not live at the same address as you. Acceptable forms of identification are a drivers licence, pension card, utilities account or rent agreement.

Borrowing rules and conditions
What can I borrow?A combination of 15 items per membership per card can be borrowed and the loan period is three weeks. Maximum loans per category are:
Library cards must be presented to borrow items. Items can be returned during opening hours or through the after hours return chute. Renewals and OverduesRenewing ItemsAll loans are for 3 weeks only. Items may be renewed in person or by telephone, or on-line as long as they have not been requested by another patron. Renew items by:
OverduesReminder notices are sent if items are not returned within 2 weeks after the due back date. To avoid being charged for the replacement cost of items and an administration fee, all overdue items must be returned within the next 2 weeks. An administration fee of $5.50 is levied if loans are returned 4 weeks or more after the due back date. This fee needs to be paid to avoid suspension of library privileges. Lost and Damaged ItemsThe library will charge for items that have been lost or damaged beyond repair. The charge will equal a replacement cost for Bassendean Library items and a depreciated cost for State Library of Western Australia items. Minor damage that doesn’t affect the items usefulness will not attract any charge. For further information contact the Library at 9279 2966. Reservations and RequestsReservationsItems that are in the library stock, but out on loan, may be reserved and a maximum of 12 items can be reserved per membership card. The availability of the items in our stock can be established by searching our catalogue and reservations can be made online by clicking on the Reserve link. All new additions to our collection are displayed in the library and reservations for these items can be made either in person, or online, by accessing the New Stock links or our library catalogue. The display changes every week so visit our library regularly to benefit fully, from a continually evolving collection. Notices are sent by mail or e-mail to advise patrons that an item is ready for collection. 8 days are allowed for collection so be aware of the deadline date. Reserve items by:
RequestsItems that cannot be found in our catalogue can be requested from another library via inter-library loans. The availability of items in the State’s library can be established by searching the State Library of Western Australia’s catalogue at http://www.liswa.wa.gov.au.
