Councillor Melissa Mykytiuk

Melissa was elected to Council in October 2017.She is committed to preserving and enhancing Bassendean’s green spaces and making our town a more vibrant, connected and sustainable place to live.

She is actively involved in Ashfield Community Action Network, Friends of Bindaring Park, the Bassendean Preservation Group and the Bassendean Historical Society.

Growing up in Bassendean, Melissa enjoyed exploring the parks and wetlands where she developed a love and appreciation for nature. With both her parents being active members of the Ukrainian community, Melissa developed a strong appreciation of being part of and contributing to building community.

Following her desire to care for people, Melissa completed a degree in Nursing and Psychology. She went on to work as a nurse in emergency medicine before specialising in looking after people with heart and lung conditions.

In 2007 Melissa decided to turn her love for the natural environment into a career. After completing a degree in Conservation and Wildlife Biology, Melissa soon gained her current role as Community Liaison Officer at Bold Park. In this role, Melissa engages with visitors and stakeholders to promote the value of conserving biodiversity and living sustainably.

In her free time, Melissa volunteers as a crisis supporter for Lifeline WA and is passionate about raising awareness of mental health and promoting resilience.
