Ranger Services Information Sheet 6

Wandering dogs

We have a dog wandering in our street or on our property - what do we do?

Call the ranger and advise them of the as many details as possible, such as small, big, colour, breed of dog, has got a collar etc.

Do not approach the dog. Not all dogs are friendly.

What will the ranger do with the dog?

If the dog has relevant ID, a seizure and detention notice will be issued to the owner to advise them of their dog's whereabouts.

If the dog cannot be returned to the owner immediately, then the dog will be placed in the pound at the RSPCA, 108 Malaga Drive, Malaga (cnr Reid Hwy and Malaga Dve). The RSPCA will house the dog for up to 7 days for the owner to claim the dog. If, however, after 7 days the dog remains unclaimed, the RSPCA will take ownership of the dog. Please refer to the RSPCA Website for further information regarding their policies and practices."

The dog will be provided with bedding, water and food in a sheltered kennel.

The RSPCA's website address is: www.rspcawa.asn.au
