Asset Services Information Sheet – Verge Maintenance

Introduction

The portion of land between a property boundary and the road is referred to as the verge. The Town considers the planting and maintenance of the verge to be important to the overall amenity of the community, be it residential, commercial, or industrial precincts.

The Town encourages its residents to maintain their own verges as a means of improving the amenity of the community.

Verge Mowing

Verge mowing will be provided on a six weekly cycle, within budgetary constraints, in accordance with the following priorities:

Priority 1 – Primary and District Distributor roads including Guildford Road, Lord Street, Walter Road East, Morley Drive (in conjunction with the City of Swan), Collier Road, and Railway Parade. Areas considered a risk because of fire, traffic, cyclist, or pedestrian safety will also be mowed on an as required basis.

Priority 2 – Local Distributor roads including West Road, Ivanhoe Street, Old Perth Road, Hardy Road, Reid Street, Broadway, Northmoor Road, Iolanthe Street, Palmerston Street, Shackleton Street, Bridson Street, Haig Street, and Colstoun Road.

Priority 3 – Local roads including Scaddan Street, North Road, Bassendean Parade, Pearson Street, and Surrey Street.

Priority 4 – verges adjacent to vacant and corner blocks, cul-de-sac heads, and closed sections in other roads.

Verges adjacent to parks and reserves are mowed within this program.

Verges maintained by residents or in commercial /industrial precincts are not mowed as part of the program.

Permissible Verge Treatments

Information on the installation and maintenance of permissible verge treatments is available from the Council website, Council Office or Depot.
