Regional Environment Strategy

The Regional Environmental Strategy (RES) was an initiative of the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC) who recognised the need to develop a sustainable approach to the future development of this region.

The RES sets out a vision for the future environment of the region and provides a long-term framework for planning within which ongoing issues can be addressed. The aim will be to achieve economic and social goals through the implementation of environmental strategies and particularly to assist future economic development in an environmentally appropriate manner.

Areas which are addressed include:

  • Air quality
  • Biodiversity
  • Community participation and awareness
  • Fire management
  • Funding and resources
  • Land management and rehabilitation
  • Planning, development and economic activity;
  • Recreation in parks, reserves and national parks;
  • Waste management, and
  • Water quality.
