Dog registration

Legislation

All dogs over the age of 3 months must be registered with the council. Registration expires on October 31st each year.

The State Government determines the following registration fees:

Condition 1 year 3 years
Unsterilised $30 $75
Sterilised $10 $18

You need to prove sterilisation by providing a Veterinary Certificate or a Statutory Declaration. This is usually provided by the owner who is over the age of 18 years.

A tattoo in the ear of the dog denoting a circle with a line through it is proof that the dog has been sterilised. A Dog Registration Officer must sight this.

Dog registrations discounts

Concession cards that clearly states Pensioner Concession Cards or Seniors Card as per the Rates Act receives a 50% discount.

If registration is taken out and you have your dog sterilised, you may receive part refund on the outstanding registration after producing the sterilisation papers to the council.

If a dog is registered after May for a 'one year's registration' then the owner only has to pay 50% of the fee applicable if it is the first time the dog has been registered in its life. If it has been registered but the person is paying late in the year then the full fee applies.

New registration and transfer

Any new dog - a dog registration form has to be filled out. This also applies to transfer from other Councils. Transfers are free of charge and are encouraged by the rangers.
