Burning Off
There is a "no burning off" policy in the Town of Bassendean. This applies all year round.
A person who wishes to burn off must write to the Town of Bassendean and gain approval. If rubble or garden refuse can be removed by the property by any other means, eg. Trailer, bagging the rubbish, cutting the root out etc then permission will not be granted for a burning permit.
Permission to Burn Off
- Applicant to apply in writing to Council to burn stating when they would like to burn off and where etc.
- Manager Environment and Ranger Services to request Rangers to inspect property.
- Letter with relevant details sent to rangers' office for them to investigate and determine if permission is to be recommended to the Manager Environment and Ranger Services. Rangers to assess if alternative method of disposal of material to be burnt is available (ie. removal by trailer).
Conditions person needs to comply with:
- Burning on the ground is permitted except on days of very high or extreme fire danger or other times prohibited by the WA Fire Brigade
- A firebreak of 3 metres wide around material to be burnt is to be provided
- A minimum of one person to be in attendance at all times, 15 years of age and over
- A hose with flowing water or alternative fire fighting equipment to be available
- Only one pile of rubbish to be burnt at any one time
- Fires must be out before departing the area
- No fires, or any land being burnt off, or any rubbish being burnt on the land, is to cause a nuisance to any person residing in the neighbourhood
- Council's rangers to be notified the day prior to any burning being carried out by telephoning 9377 7480
- This approval is valid for a period of fourteen days, and must be produced on request by a Council officer.
4. If permission is given, a letter permitting to burn is sent to applicant and conditions stated.
Tip Passes are available at the administration, library or by contacting the rangers.
Barbecues or alike are permitted during non-extreme fire conditions.
