Streetscape trees, flowersStreetscape master plan

After extensive community consultation, Council adopted a revised Streetscape Master Plan and Tree Species Information for the Street Tree Master Plan in December 2009.

In developing the Street Tree Master Plan, Council has taken into consideration the mix of existing trees in each street that have been planted over a number of years and the cultural or natural association of these trees to the area. The Street Tree Master Plan also links streetscapes to public open space and natural areas and provides biodiversity corridors, which in the long term, will create ‘boulevard’ style streetscapes.

Residents are encouraged to submit an application to the Town, prior to the end of April each year, for the planting of a street tree(s) adjacent to their property during the winter months.

The adopted Streetscape Master Plan and Tree Species Information can be viewed on our website under ‘Information and Feedback/Statutory Reports and Plans’.

Please telephone Asset Services on 9377 9000 for a street tree to be planted adjacent to your property.

Volunteers

Volunteers celebrated

The Town of Bassendean celebrated International Volunteer Day on Saturday 5 December.

This event is held each year to recognise the valuable contribution of both individuals and groups for their efforts within the community.

People of all ages rely on the generosity of these volunteers throughout our community. Duties undertaken by our volunteers include services to seniors and those with disabilities, encouraging our youth to participate in different sporting and recreational activities, helping to enhance and protect our environment and emergency services.

The Town sees volunteers as the heartbeat of community and by being active in volunteering they make the Town a better place to live.

Mayor Cr John Gangell said, “The turnout was indicative of the overall appreciation for volunteers.”

Community Transport volunteers

Bassendean Community Transport

The Bassendean Community Transport service has been going strong since 1984 providing a great service to the residents of the Town.

Our dedicated team of Volunteers are happy to assist you with your transport query. The priority of access for the service is for residents who are in genuine need and who are unable to make alternative arrangements for transport.

The transport service is not a taxi service. The buses are used to help the maximum number of people and therefore residents will need to be flexible in the time they are picked up and returned. In many cases residents will need to be ready well in advance of their appointment time and may be part of a small number of people already on the bus.

We have two buses: Internal and External. The Internal bus is for transporting residents in and around the Town’s boundaries for medical appointments, shopping on a Thursday, and to regular local social activities. The External bus takes people to medical appointments outside the Town at places such as Swan Districts Hospital, Royal Perth Hospital, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and the Shenton Park Rehabilitation Centre, as well as to specialist services in adjoining suburbs.

To find out more about our Transport Service or if you would like to know about joining our team of volunteers either in the office or on the buses, please give Audrey a call on 9377 2191 during office hours.
