Ashfield Precinct Plan
A plan which will shape the future development of Ashfield proposes the area becoming a more significant employment-focused strategic centre over the next two decades.
The Ashfield Precinct Plan has been developed by the Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) in conjunction with the Town of Bassendean and City of Bayswater.
WAPC Chairman, Gary Prattley, said, “Ashfield has been identified as a strategically important area in Directions 2031: Spatial Framework for Perth and Peel, which sets out how we are going to accommodate future growth in the region.
“With its proximity to the Perth Airport, and with industrial land at a premium in the metropolitan area, Ashfield is considered well placed to develop into a more significant centre.
“It has large areas of relatively under-utilised land and is well-positioned for the development of facilities to maximise the use of the rail service.”
A range of stakeholders, including members of the local community, were involved in developing the plan. Among the potential development ideas contained in the plan are:
- more intense residential and mixed uses around Ashfield Reserve;
- new commercial and office development on available industrial land;
- upgrading of the Colstoun Road Village; and
- changes to the Guildford/Colstoun Roads intersection to make it safer.
In the longer term, Guildford Road could be realigned to take industrial and regional traffic away from residential areas, and Ashfield train station relocated to encourage more people to use the train.
Mr Prattley said, “This plan will help local governments, the WAPC and other stakeholders make informed decisions about the future use of land in Ashfield.”
