Resource Recovery Project

The Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC) is progressing the Resource Recovery project with a carefully planned process, to ensure they make informed decisions for the region.

At this stage, no final decisions have been made on the location, technology or ownership model for the Resource Recovery Facility, and no spending commitments have been made by any of the EMRC’s six member councils.

The Resource Recovery Facility is being planned to treat only municipal solid waste (household rubbish and greenwaste) and not any toxic, hazardous or high-risk waste. At no time has the EMRC said that the facility would process toxic waste.

The EMRC is taking a staged approach and there are a number of decision points over the next three years where, after consultation with the community and the member councils, the EMRC will decide whether to proceed through the various stages of the project. While the decision has not yet been made on the technology to be used, no matter which technology is finally chosen, the EMRC will be looking to adopt best practice with the Resource Recovery Facility.

Resource Recovery ProjectThe health and well-being of the community and the environment are of the utmost priority for the EMRC and its member councils and they are taking these decisions very seriously. The facility will operate to strict environmental and health standards.

The EMRC is currently undertaking an Expressions of Interest process, following several years of research and planning. The information gathered through the Expressions of Interest phase will enable the EMRC to provide more technical details to the member councils and the community about the various technology options being considered.

The EMRC recognises it needs to work with the community on developing sustainable solutions to waste management for the region, and is committed to keeping the community informed and involved through each stage of the Resource Recovery project.

Missing plants

do you know where they are?

There has been an unprecedented increase in the number of plants being stolen from the Town’s gardens.

Council endeavours to maintain the roundabouts, garden beds and reserves in the Town to a high standard, but this work is being undermined due to the number of plants, both newly planted and established, that are stolen each week.

Residents are encouraged to becomes ‘eyes on the street’ and report any suspicious behaviour to the Rangers on 9377 7480.
