‘Red October’ in the Library
The ‘new’ Library will be celebrating four years of occupancy at the end of October. This year there’s no birthday cake—instead, we will be giving all new memberships and all renewing memberships a free ‘red’ library bag right throughout October.
Existing memberships remain valid for three years and then need renewing. This gives the library a chance to confirm that the details we have for you are accurate.
You may have an email address or an SMS facility that you want to update. We are able to email notices to you now and expect to be using SMS for notices by the beginning of 2010.
The library bag is a useful addition to your ‘green bag’ collection. It holds plenty of books, CDs, DVDs, magazines, jigsaws—in fact, it holds plenty of anything you borrow from the library!
Amnesty for October 2009
The Library has noticed an increased number of overdue and non-returned items happening. To help Library staff clear up this backlog, there will be an amnesty on any fees for outstanding items that are overdue for return.
No administration fees will be collected from anyone returning overdue items during the month of October. This is a great opportunity to clear the back room, clear your account with the library, and clear your conscience in one easy hit. If you have any material still on loan from the Library, and it is long past the return date, bring them back and you won’t be charged a fee. Items can be simply deposited into the after-hours return chute next to the front door or left at the Library returns desk inside. This will help us greatly. We can clear the paperwork, have the stock available to lend out again and remove any follow-up action from your membership.
If you want to renew your membership whilst returning your overdue items, you can also collect a free Library bag. What a bargain!
Halloween
‘Interview with a vampire’
Halloween takes place on a Saturday this year, so there will not be a party in the Library. However, Halloween shouldn’t be passed up that easily—so the Library is having a bit of a competition with a Halloween theme and worthwhile prizes!
The theme is ‘Interview with a Vampire’. There are three categories based on age:
- Pre-primary aged children. This is a drawing competition. Entrants simply put crayon to paper and draw their impressions of what an interview with a vampire would look like! There will be colouring-in sheets available at the Library.
- Children attending years 1–5 at a primary school. This is a competition involving a two to three page ‘photo’ album of an interview with a vampire and his/her friends.
- Children attending years 6–9 at school. This is an even better written competition! Up to four pages of ‘record’ of the interview with a vampire. There will be interview sheets available at the Library with helpful questions.
This is a wonderful opportunity for the imagination to be used. All entries are welcome. There will be a coffin load of prizes for each category and a certificate of participation, as well as a grand display in the Library and on our website!
Competition forms will be available at the Library from Tuesday 6th October. Remember, ‘Interview with a Vampire’ is the theme for the written entries.
