World Environment Day

Do you have old and unwanted phones lying around? Not sure what to do with them? Mobile Muster and LandCare Australia have joined forces again to promote ‘Old Phones More Trees’ which will be running from the 1 May 2009 to 5 June 2009.

For every one kilogram of mobile phones collected, MobileMuster and LandCare Australia will plant a native tree in honour of World Environment Day.

Since the program’s inception in 2007, Old Phones More Trees have collected enough mobile phones to plant 175,000 trees throughout Australia. The goal for this year is to reach 200,000 trees in the lead-up to World Environment Day.

Collected mobile phones parts are then recycled and turned into useful products. This process will significantly reduce carbon emissions as opposed to making products from scratch.

You are welcome to make your contribution to the environment by disposing of mobile phones at the designated collection points at the Town of Bassendean’s Customer Service Centre and the Bassendean Memorial Library, both located on Old Perth Road.

The more phones collected before 5 June 2009 will mean the more trees planted.

Waste and Recycling Guide 2009–10

New waste and recycling guides will be delivered throughout July 2009.

Please ensure you look out for this calendar and place it on your fridge, as it has lots of important information such as bin collections days, alternative pick up arrangements for certain public holidays, what to place in your bin, future dates for household hazardous waste collection days, green waste and bulk rubbish collections, disposal guides for all sorts of items and handy hints on reducing and recycling waste.
