‘Safer Bassendean’ plan being implemented

In 2005, the Town of Bassendean entered into a regional community safety and crime prevention partnership with the Western Australian State Government, the City of Swan and the Shires of Kalamunda and Mundaring. A Plan for the Midland Police District has been completed and is being implemented and Council has adopted a Safer Bassendean Crime Prevention and Community Safety Plan.
Bassendean Council will continue to advocate for a strong Police presence in the Town and the recognition that the Police are the lead agency in preventing and dealing with criminal activity.
The Town will play its part through its many programs such as the Ranger Patrols, Youth Centre activities, Out of School Care, community education for Seniors and the Graffiti Removal Scheme to make the suburbs of Eden Hill, Bassendean and Ashfield even safer. Successful implementation of the plan through partnerships and collaboration with other agencies is the goal.
The Town has been successful in receiving a $22,000 grant from the Office of Crime Prevention, which was presented by Minister Michelle Roberts at a recent function at the Midland Town Hall. These funds will be used for the Ashfield Community Action Plan. This project will proceed in conjunction with the Ashfield Precinct Plan and will engage the community in identifying strategies to make Ashfield an even better place to live and help the suburb to reach its full potential.
