Funding of $150,000 has been announced by Minister MacTiernan for planning studies to advance the implementation of Transit Oriented Development (TOD) near the Town’s three train stations. The studies funded under the Local Government Planning Assistance Program are part of the Maylands to Guildford TOD study supporting the Bassendean Town Centre Area Strategy and the Ashfield Redevelopment Project.
Funding of $100,000 has been allocated to develop a comprehensive precinct plan for Ashfield.
As well as being an excellently located residential area, the precinct is a major employment activity centre under the Network City planning strategy. An Enquiry by Design workshop will be held which will examine different opportunities for the precinct. This will result in a draft precinct plan and report being prepared which will be released for public comment between June and July 2008.
A collaborative approach will see the Town of Bassendean working with the Department for Planning and Infrastructure; City of Bayswater; the Department of Education and Training regarding the possible relocation of Cyril Jackson Senior Campus; Main Roads in relation to access to the CSBP site; and the Public Transport Authority in relation to the upgrading or relocation of the Ashfield Train Station. Hopefully, the precinct plan, planning report and implementation plan will be completed by August.
The Town’s $15,000 Community Action Plan will complement the project.
Funding of $50,000 has been approved for a business plan and feasibility study to see if the proceeds of the sale of land are sufficient to fund the many public works required under the TCAS Plan. The major focus will be Steel Blue Oval and the BIC Reserve which are in public ownership. Public works that need to be funded are a new Town Square, civic building, parking, footpaths, landscaping, a water feature and link roads. The partners involved with the Town are the Department for Planning and Infrastructure and LandCorp. The scheduled completion date of the feasibility study and implementation plan is June 2008.
