The purpose of the Town’s Seniors & Disability Services Business Unit is to provide high-quality, in-home, community and centre-based support services to assist frail aged people and young people with disabilities to continue living independently in the Town.
Seniors & Disability Services (S&DS) is based at the Ashfield Community Centre and receives external funds from Department of Health (State Government for HACC services) and Department of Health and Ageing (Federal government for CACP services). With those funds the staff and volunteers of S&DS deliver six major services, namely:
Adult Day Centre activities
Adult Day Centre activities for all eligible and interested clients, including one day each week for people with dementia and another weekly group for young people with disabilities, the focus is on local community involvement.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander services
These include day activities as well as social support, transport and assistance with personal care and family issues.
Community Aged Care Packages
Providing in-home and community services for people aged 70+who have complex health conditions and as indicated from the required ACAT assessment, need more intensive support to stay at home.

Hyde Retirement Village
This village is comprised of 31 independent living units. It is located at 2-10 James Street, Bassendean, which is very close to the Town Centre with all the facilities just a few moments walk away. There is also access to a Transperth bus stop just out the front of the Village, as well as the train station on Guildford Road.
The provision of independent living units at the Hyde Retirement Village in James Street, is an important component of Council's strategy to support healthy ageing, foster continued independence and encourage freedom of choice in the community. It has been acknowledged throughout the years that many long-term residents of the Town of Bassendean have a strong desire to remain in the area when they can no longer live in the larger family home, rather than having to move away from established friends and social networks.
