The Library & Information Services' mission is to provide a high-quality, customer-driven Library & Information Service that meets the needs of our community to enrich its quality of life.
The Bassendean Memorial Library holds 30,000 items of informational, educational and recreational material that is available for free loan. This material includes large print, audio, DVD, CD, periodical, video, newspaper, pamphlet and other non-book material in both English and other languages. The library is part of a statewide network that enables access to over two million titles as well as electronic reference products.
Services
A substantial in-house reference collection is available. This includes telephone directories, Town of Bassendean minutes, agendas and publications, Government reports, ABS publications and locally produced information brochures.
A separate collection and services for children is provided. This includes twice weekly storytelling and activities sessions, plus a collection of identified material to assist with the parenting experience.
The library service houses and maintains the Bassendean Local Studies Collection which captures and makes available historical facets of the Bassendean community.
The Library building provides study facilities, Internet access PC's, email, word-processing, photocopying, laminating, binding, printing and facsimile facilities. Posters, pamphlets, information brochures, displays, bus timetables, public and community notices are also provided in the Library.
The library also provides a recycling amenity through the collection of unwanted eye glasses, dry battery collection, discarded cell phones and paper recycling bins.
Access
The Library is open Monday to Saturday for a total of 56 hours per week (including three evenings until 8.00pm). The Library maintains a website which provides access to the catalogue of holdings for Bassendean, the Local Studies Collection (including photographs), the statewide collection, electronic reference products and data bases and also enables library members to transact online for loan renewals, enquiries and email contact.
The facility provides disabled access to most amenities and can provide audio and visual aids for onsite assistance.
