Community Transport
The Town of Bassendean provides a Community Transport Bus Service to its residents.
The priority of access for the Community Transport Service is for residents who are in genuine need for the service and who are unable to make alternative arrangements for transport.
One bus is used mainly for transporting residents to medical appointments outside the Town at places such as Swan Districts, Royal Perth, Sir Charles Gardiner and Shenton Park Rehabilitation Centre, as well as to specialist services in adjoining suburbs. The other bus is used within the Town of Bassendean for medical appointments, shopping and transport to local social events.
Volunteer drivers
The buses are driven by a dedicated group of local residents who volunteer their valuable time to assist the community. Although the buses are a free service the Town welcomes small donations from passengers. Donations are used to assist with the cost of running the service including providing lunches for the Volunteer Drivers.
The Community Transport Service is not a taxi service whereby a resident can specify exactly when to be picked up and collected. Flexibility in pick up and drop off times needs to occur enabling a maximum number of residents to use the service.
