5.1            Federal Government’s Strategic Infrastructure Funding Programme

The CEO presented Council with an outline of the proposed construction of the Civic Building, as contained in the Town Centre Area Strategy, and using the costing contained within that report, as the basis for an application to the Federal Government’s Strategic Infrastructure Funding programme.

The CEO recommended that a funding proposal be submitted that requested $16,000,000 towards that project and submitted as part of the much larger total Town Centre Redevelopment plans. Further, that the funding will be for the three storey version on the basis that the Government is unlikely to provide funding towards a project which has a major commercial component.
